About

AI Ergonomic Evaluation System VP-Ergono

A state-of-the-art ergonomic evaluation system where AI automatically detects the skeleton of a worker through camera images, and analyzes the load they experience.
Makes use of the internationally acclaimed working-posture evaluation system the OWAS Method.

Degree of Improvement Image

Imagine that you’re performing a series of tasks, and during this process you adopt postures that carry a large amount of strain. In this case, the OWAS Method doesn’t answer the question “How much burden am I carrying?”, but rather it answers the question of “How much harm does this posture do?” It does this by providing a numerical value between 1-4 of required improvement (the AC Value) and helps evaluate and analyze what areas of your posture or your surroundings ought to be improved.

Skeletal Information

Each joint gets analyzed separately for a complete evaluation!

Skeletal Information

VP-Ergono analyzes the body’s main 17 joints, subdivides them and analyzes the burden on the three areas you feel most during working, which are the back, the upper limbs and the lower limbs, before providing an easy-to-comprehend overall necessary improvement score through the AC Values.

The subjective interpretation of the observer is replaced by the quantitative judgment of AI, and the program can instantly be implemented in working places to ergonomically improve those environments.

VP-Ergono is not just used for improvement, but can also be used when it comes to redesigining work spaces, such as assembly lines, from an ergonomical point of view.

Evaluation

Posture improvement using the OWAS method

The OWAS method is a posture measuring analysis method developed in Finland to solve the problem of poor worker posture. The method can be used to evaluate the load that a worker’s body is under, and is adopted worldwide, but using the method has its drawbacks, namely:

・Manual classification takes time and resources

・Results differ based on knowhow and interpretation.

However, these problems are solved when VP-Ergono’s AI camera automatically analyses the load.

The OWAS method’s posture code classification and evaluation chart

The OWAS method divides working posture into 4 categories, classifies them into numerical codes and presents a table with all possible combinations. Each combination can be assigned a number from 1-4 on the Action Category (AC) scale, which tells you how necessary improvements are. The meaning of the numbers is as follows.

  • AC1 No issues found, no improvement necessary
  • AC2 Slightly strained, improvement in the near future required
  • AC3 Very strained, improvement as soon as possible required
  • AC4 Extremely strained, improvement right away is required

*VP-Ergono does not take calculations and evaluations of Code 7 of the lower body into account, ‘walking or movement’.

Solution

Automatic load analysis through AI

VP-Ergono uses AI to automatically recognize people through live or prerecorded footage. It detects the skeleton of these people and through a load analysis algorithm evaluates their posture and the need for improvement. VP-Ergono’s excellent analysis capabilities shine through in the following three special capabilities.

・3D analysis of full body skeleton

・Chronological analysis of posture and movement

・Automatic, quantitative analysis by AI

Features

VP-Ergono’s Features

01

Supports real time and prerecorded footage

AI automatically analyses both real time camera and prerecorded footage. Because analysis results are displayed immediately, you can use VP-Ergono to instantly judge what kind of work puts a large strain on the body. Instant analysis applies to both prerecorded and live footage.

02

No need for specialized equipment

To start analyzing load, all VP-Motion needs is a PC, with no need for specialized equipment. To analyze real-time footage you will need either a network (IP) camera, or an ordinary webcam. Plus, VP-Ergono doesn’t break the bank, which means that it can easily be adopted into every workplace.

03

Analysis visualized in both 3D and numeric values

The results of the full body analysis by VP-Ergono are displayed in a freely adjustable graph, which means that you can observe the skeleton from any angle you wish. Furthermore, the evaluation results of each analysis is saved to a .csv file, which can be freely modified and used in whatever way you choose.

Use Case Examples

Manufacturing

Strain at the assembly line
and improvement to the work space

While the work at an assembly line might be identical, the strain that each person experiences can differ. Through VP-Ergono you will get concrete information and you can then use this to ascertain whether someone is adopting poor posture, or overexerting themselves.
Furthermore, you can use the data obtained through VP-Ergono to make ergonomic changes to the workspace, such as adjusting the height of a workbench or chair. Through this, the strain on the body is lessened, resulting in a smaller chance of work-related injuries and improving the health of your workers.

Construction

Discovering health hazards and
simple posture improvements

In the construction industry, where the average age is increasing as well, its cases of lower-back related pain currently accounts for 14% in all industries and it’s expected that this will number will keep rising. Through adopting VP-Ergono, you can easily perform on-site working conditions analysis and nip potential health hazards in the bud at an early stage. This will lead to an improvement in the working environment, enabling people to work longer and in better health.
Using VP-Ergono, you can expect a non-intrusive, simple and speedy evaluation powered by AI, which you can use to improve working posture and conditions in real time.

Logistics

Catch unseen risks too
and protect the health of your workers

In the world of logistics, with jobs that require short instances of intense load, the daily grind can stack up and pose enormous health hazards. Exactly because the work is not complex, it can lead to changes in individual postures, which down the line opens the door to major differences in posture.
By analyzing the working posture in each situation and implementing safer postures, you can prevent overlooked and/or unseen risks from forming, and as a result protect your workers’ health.

Service Industry

Improving Working Posture
Leads to Improved Service

Even jobs that we see every day suffer from poor working posture. In the hospitality industry, it’s common that people perform the same tasks, with the same posture day in day out. But conversely, there aren’t many companies that take the time to incorporate posture improvement. This is because companies face a heavy burden getting all the necessary standards up to scratch and getting employees that can perform proper analysis.
By performing workplace improvements with a system that provides a clear evaluation, you can reach a situation where people want to stick around and do their jobs without being burdened with poor posture, which in turn will lead to an increase in the level of performance from employees.

Product Specifics

VP-Ergono’s screen layout

VP-Ergono has a simple-to-use layout. You can select prerecorded or live footage, make use of the 3D model of the detected skeleton, and see a graph where each bodypart’s individual load is displayed, a section where you can see the AC Value of the specific action on screen as well as a graph showing the entire imported clip’s worth of values. It is also possible to check how the valuation changes through selecting different added weights and forces acting on the body during analysis.
